“Great to hear these jems again” Crystal Method
“I always liked a bit of Tribal Tension” Plump DJs
“Classics everybody should own and now they sound like brand new releases again!”

A retrospective look at some of Lee Coombs and Thrusts finest moments from as far back as 1997, including the underground Breaks Classic Thrust 1 (the 1st Thrust release). These are some of the tracks that have defined a generation of Tech Funk Clubbers and DJs alike and is also the reason Lee Coombs has gone on to consistently write groundbreaking artist albums and remix some of the biggest acts in the World. These tunes have been hammered with huge results in every great Club across the planet by the Residents who know and love their crowds along with the International Superstar DJ’s that drop in every week.

Not happy with the production techniques of yesterday Lee has painstakingly remixed; re mastered (by Uberzone) or made completely new versions of these Classic tracks making them sound as fresh as when they were first released. Thrust 1 and Thrust 2 have never been available as digital downloads and have been long since deleted as vinyl releases, also there is a brand new version of The Lee Coombs and The Drumattic Twins Remix of Thrust 1 which is currently blowing up Lee’s Dance Floors. Killer underground tunes from D Ramirez, Meat Katie and Paranoid Jack have all been re mastered and there are brand new and fully unreleased tracks by Oscar Goldman (of Thrust 2 fame) and Lee Coombs with the unreleased bomb Thrust 4.
Tracklisting –
1. Lee Coombs – Thrust One (Remastered)
2. Lee Coombs and The Drumattic Twins – Tribal Tension (Remastered)
3. Meat Katie and Justin Drake – I’m still here (Remastered)

Peter Hudson’s CHARON Animated Progression Film featuring Music by Lee Coombs

I am honored to be able to say that i contributed to one of the most mind blowing Art installations ever to be seen at Burning Man. Peter Hudson’s Charon was a huge team effort and the result is nothing short of Amazing! I have been working with Warren Trezevant who did the original animation for the Skeletons on the art piece. The film shows the progress from the very beginning of the animation process right through to the final result at Burning Man 2011. I wrote the music and wanted to give it a dark and atmospheric edge to be in keeping with the theme, needless to say we are VERY happy with the result and we hope you enjoy watching / listening as much as we did making it. Big Love and respect to Peter Hudson and all the Charon Team (you know who you are, the list is huge) and especially Warren for creating this amazing film. LC x

Hope to see you all there.

Project One Press release –
Project One Gallery, a lounge and art gallery in San Francisco, is pleased to announce an exciting musical collaboration with internationally acclaimed DJ Lee Coombs. P1 and Coombs are launching a new monthly event: “Familia,” featuring Coombs as P1’s new resident DJ along with rotating special guest DJs.

“I’m very excited about selecting music to play for Familia,” said Coombs, who is looking forward to using this opportunity to build “more eclectic sets,” which will include “all the newest tech funk, acid house, breaks, and electro, mixed with the coldest of classics.”

Coombs will be joined by special guest Überzone for the first “Familia” on May 19th. Überzone, also known as Q, also known as Timothy Wiles, is a California native known for his supremely danceable and unique electro beats. Wiles exploded onto the scene in the late 1990s, when he produced a number of hit singles, including “Botz,” “The Freaks,” and “2Kool4Skool” for City of Angels. Most recently, he mixed VCMG’s Ssss, a collaboration between Vince Clarke and Martin L. Gore of Depeche Mode, and remixed Erasure’s “A Whole Lotta Love Gone Riot” for their “Fill Us With Fire” single.

British-born Lee Coombs has been DJing since 1989, when he got his start at acid house parties in London and Cambridge. He went on to run several of his own labels and collaborate with some of the most respected artists and producers in his field, combining breaks, house, electro, techno, and acid to create groundbreaking mixes in his own signature style. Coombs is a talented and innovative fan-favorite around the world, whether he’s releasing music through his own Thrust Recordings or as part of the Lot49 team, or mesmerizing massive audiences filling dance floors from Australia to Burning Man.

Coombs is thrilled to begin making regular appearances at P1, calling the gallery/lounge “the perfect place for my new monthly residency.” Coombs elaborated, saying, “The venue is perfect, the sound system is on point, and the layout of the room keeps the vibe intimate but still feeling like we have space. I had been looking in SF for somewhere to do this for a while, and was blown away by how comfortably we tore the roof off the place last time I played. Congratulations to Steve and Brooke on building such a great venue! I really feel like we are about to build something very special at Project One. I can’t wait to see you all there!”

P1 is a 3200 square foot converted warehouse located in the design district of San Francisco, featuring a state of the art sound system and full bar. P1 hosts both up-and-coming and globally recognized DJs as well as showcasing the work of local and international contemporary artists in their gallery space.

Lee’s Blog – I love Orbital

I had the most wonderful surprise last night. When i got in dance music many moons ago i think the first really big record that gripped me was Orbital – Chime. Nothing sounded like it at the time and it was one of the most awesome and exciting records to ever be released i think. Years later i would make a great friend called Phil Hartnoll (one half of Orbital) and last night he sent me their new album with a message saying i am the first person he has sent it to. Now when i first heard Chime i never even thought i would ever get to meet anyone like Orbital or Phil. You see dreams do come true. Follow your heart and you will find them. Big love to Phil and Thank You x

BTW the new album is classic Orbital, go buy it!

The legendary ‘Freakazoids’ return to the 808 to bring back their own slice of Electro Funk. ‘The Freakazoids’ is the Brainchild of Lee Coombs, Nick Slater and Lanx (later two both of Shades of Rhythm fame) who came together through their love of Old Skool Electro Funk and Hip Hop and released a string of underground records in the late Nineties. After a ten year break and working on other projects the boys have decided to collaborate again and bring back the Funk.

New Lee Coombs Podcast – Back to mine mixtape

December Back to mine mixtape

Download link – http://leecoombs.podomatic.com/entry/2011-12-21T12_18_10-08_00

How about a little ‘Back to mine’ style mix to play while your eating your Turkey? I started looking at my old vinyl and thought it would make a nice end to the year if i put together a chill mix. To me it’s so much more fun looking through my vinyl, searching out tracks to play, instead of on the computer. We truly lost something when vinyl became less popular. Sob..sob…anyway here is a mix done the Old Skool way, not even any beat mixing. Just the tunes! Hope your all having a great time over the holidays!! Enjoy ;0) x

Tracklisting –
1. Don Carlos – Alone
2. Information Society – Running
3. Shades of Rhythm – Sweet Sensation
4. Frankie Knuckles – Tears
5. Koro Koro – No Smoke
6. Beloved – The Sunrising
7. Bobby Konders – The Poem
8. Cool Jack – Come with me
9. Nightmares on Wax – Dextrous
10. Leftfield – Melt
